Jane Milner
Needlework Sampler
Lancaster, Pennsylvania 1830
Jane at age seventeen, when she made this sampler, was grateful for her ability to admire beauty and we are grateful
for her ability to create it.
Note the verse: To me A creator has graciously given/ Both sight to behold and A heart to admire/ And when I
contemplate his beauties at even (evening)/ I find myself lost in the blaze of their fire.
In the bottom cartouche are initials of her parents CM (Cyrus Milner) and SM (Sarah Carter). Jane was the middle
child of eleven. At age 22, on New Year's Eve day, she married Jacob Levi Kirk and they had seven children.
She died at age 59 and was buried in Eastland Friends Burial Ground, Little Britain, Lancaster, PA.
