Lora Stevens
Antique Sampler
Stoneham, MA dated 1807
Lora, at age 18, worked this very decorative sampler featuring alphabets within an arched saw-tooth and flowering
vine border at the top, and a three-story, center-hall house and monument with a memorial to her little sister
Mary, at the bottom. It is inscribed at the very bottom: Stoneham August 27 1807 --- Lora Stevens.
Lora Flint Stevens was the second oldest of ten children born to Rev. John Hathaway Stevens, the long serving minister
of the Church of Christ in Stoneham, and his first wife Lora Flint.
At age 21 Lora married Jesse Richardson V and they had two sons.
Silk on linen; 26 x 21.25 inch in later frame.
