Fillebrown Family Record
Needlework Sampler
Boston, MA c.1818-27
This classic family register sampler lists the parents and seven children, well almost, the youngest child was
named Dorcas and is only represented by the letter D and a piece of thread. The sampler was no doubt stitched by
one of the four youngest sisters, Lucy, Betsy, Mary, or Dorcas. Almira the oldest of the sisters died as an infant.
The father, Samuel was listed as a shipwright and tragically died in 1815 at age 35, 4 months before Dorcas was
born. His wife, Dorcas, remarried a Boston merchant, Uriah Hayes, in 1823. Silk on linen; 18 ½" x 18
½" framed.

Note: Another similar Boston family record sampler, worked at the same school is available on this website. It
was worked by 11 year old Adelina Henderson in 1827. They were next door neighbors
on Ann Street, Boston, and were both the same age, and the youngest child in their families.
