This "printwork" embroidered memorial sampler is part of a small and rare group produced at a female
academy in Albany, NY.
Betty Ring has devoted a chapter to these striking embroideries in Girlhood Embroidery, American Samplers &
Pictorial Needlework 1650-1850, Volume II .
Condition: The silk embroidery is in good condition, with some breakage to the very long silk stitches and some
minor cracks to the silk background. It has been conservation mounted.
Provenance: Betty Ring's collection, published in American Needlework Treasures by Betty Ring, exhibited
in the Museum of American Folk Art 1990, Stephen and Carol Huber, Dan and Marty Campanelli. Extensive research
accompanies this silk embroidered memorial.
