Antique needlework sampler by Sarah Alling New Haven, CT dated 1836.
Eleven year old Sarah Alling wrought this needlework sampler in 1836 while attending
Miss Frances A. Street's school in New Haven, CT. It includes a family record with her parents birth and marriage
dates and names and birth dates of herself and five siblings plus a moralistic verse.
The only amaranthine flower on earth is
Virtue. The only lasting treasure Truth.
The only true source of happiness Religion.
The buildings, alphabet, genealogical information, school, teacher's name,
and verse surrounded by a highly developed border make this a very desirable antique needlework sampler.
