Boston schoolgril memorial from Huber
Clarisa Brimhall
Boston, MA c.1830

This very graphic memorial sampler has a blank monument, attesting to the popularity of memorials even if you had no one to dedicate it to. Clarisa included a popular verse about living in the moment because life can be quite fleeting which is ironic because she died of consumption at age 18, shortly after completing the needlework. It is inscribed with her and parents names and birth dates. Samuel Brimhall Born Aug 10th 1775 - Mrs Brimhall Born July 4th 1796 - Clarisa Brimhall Born Feb 9th 1815.

Her mother, Clarisa Highfield, was from the Netherlands and was 20 years younger than her father who was from the Hingham, MA. Apparently they didn’t marry until 1822 when Clarisa was seven years old.

Clarisa, the maker, died March 30th 1833 and is buried in Central Burying Ground, Boston.
