This very charming silk embroidered picture with a totally filled in stitched background depicts a beautiful
young lady holding a basket of wheat. A note written in ink on the back paper, reads as follows;
Presented to Mary E. Huntington in 1878 by Grandma Lyman. This picture designed to represent Narcissa, referred
to in Young’s “Night Thoughts” was worked by her when Mary Eldredge was at Miss Nott’s School in Franklin, Conn
about 1810 when she was 16 or 7 years old.
Frances Mary Eldredge (1792-1878) was one of fourteen children born to Capt. James Eldredge and Lucy Gallop.
