The imagery for the needlework was traced from aquatint of “Mount Vernon in Virginia” engraved by Francis Jukes (1747-1812) after a painting by Alexander Roberson, London, 1800. 14.5” x 18.6”. The overall size of the silk background fabric before mounting on the backboard is very close to same size as the print. There is an embroidered picture (c. 1806-7) and a watercolor (1811) of the same image now owned by Historic Deerfield, worked by two girls while attending Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA. It is possible this one was also done at the Academy. The frame and glass are not original. Silk and watercolor on silk; 20 ¾” x 25” framed.
