LIBERTY-War of 1812
New England c.1815
Watercolor
This exuberant patriotic folk art watercolor depicts Liberty representing the United States crushing England, represented
as a lion's head with a human face, under her foot. The American flag is depicted six times while two American
frigates are leaving port, not only to convoy merchantmen, but also to destroy the British warships that might
attack them.
Most likely this unusual watercolor was based on a print yet to be identified.
Watercolor on paper; x inches sight.
