A large and beautiful c.1810 silk embroidery depicts the great Trojan hero Hector when he momentarily left the fighting in Troy and met his wife Andromache, accompanied by another woman and a nurse with their infant son Astyanax. Andromache is depicted unsuccessfully attempting to persuade him not to return to battle. "Dearest, your own great strength will be your death", Hector replied, "The Grecian Swords and Lances I can bear, But loss of Honor is my only Fear." Silk and watercolor on silk; 33 1/4" x 43 1/2" framed. Price on request
