Cartography was one of many disciplines young girls were taught in school. Lucretia, at age 14, meticulously created this rare highly detailed map of the world as an aid in her study of geography. The bottom cartouche is inscribed Executed by/ Lucretia H Buell/ Lebonon/ Sept 21, 1814

Lucretia, born in Lebanon CT, Feb. 2, 1800, was the daughter of James Buell and Tryphena Bailey. She married Erastus Clark about 1817 and they had 7 children. She died in 1860 in Vernon, NY.

Ink and watercolor on paper: 20 3/4" x 26 3/4" with original frame.
