Pair of 18th century samplers

Inscribed: POLLY TEBBETS SAMPLER/ AGED - 11 - YEARS DOVER/ AUGUST - 11- 1789.
This early band sampler features multi-colored alphabets and numerals separated with bands and framed with a three-sided
sawtooth border and an inscription at the bottom. Silk on unbleached linen; 20" x 12" framed.
(Sally Tebbets aged 13 - dated 1793)
Inscribed: SALLY TEBBETS HER SAMPLER/ AGED 13.
This boldly colored sampler features two tiers of trees and flowering motifs, alphabets and verses, and a three-sided
flowering vine border. Silk on unbleached linen; 28" x 18" framed.
The verses are as follow;
FEAR TO OFFEND/ YOUR GOD AND FRIEND.
HAPPY IS HE THE ONLY HAPPY/ MAN WHO OUT OF CHOICE/ DOES ALL THE GOOD HE CAN.
FEAR TO OFFEND/ YOUR GOD AND FRIEND.
THE ROSE IS RED THE GRASS IS GREEN/ THOSE DAYS ARE PAST THAT I HAVE SEEN.
Geneological information is inconclusive but the most probable candidates are all in the vicinity of Dover, New
Hampshire.
