Foxborough, MA 1831 At aged 11 Martha stitched this unusually structured and graphic sampler surrounded with
a complicated saw tooth, flowering vine, and checkerboard boarder. The sampler is inscribed: Martha Rhodes.
Foxborough Massachusetts. Aged eleven years. 1831. Also included on the samplers are two pleasing verses of
self guidance. May white robed innocence and truth/ My every action guide/ And guard my inexperienced youth/
From arrogance and pride. and The only amaranthine (never fading) flower on earth is virtue/ the
only lasting treasure truth.
