Foxborough, MA 1831 At aged 11 Martha stitched this unusually structured and graphic sampler surrounded with a complicated saw tooth, flowering vine, and checkerboard boarder. The sampler is inscribed: Martha Rhodes. Foxborough Massachusetts. Aged eleven years. 1831. Also included on the samplers are two pleasing verses of self guidance. May white robed innocence and truth/ My every action guide/ And guard my inexperienced youth/ From arrogance and pride. and The only amaranthine (never fading) flower on earth is virtue/ the only lasting treasure truth.
