Needlework Sampler
New Hampshire dated 1813
This is an example of a classic American sampler with a man and woman flanking a tree, baskets of flowers, stylized
conifer trees and intinicels C. S. B and M. L. B. at the bottom. Next to the verse is a center chimmey house with
a walkway, fencing, and trees. The rest consists of alphabets, numerals and a four-sided zig-zag border.
When Caroline C Marden was born from 1799 to 1800, in New Hampshire, her father, John Marden, was 29 and her mother,
Sarah Cartland, was 25. She married Nathaniel E. Badger on 28 April 1822, in Boston, MA. They had at least 1 daughter.
Caroline lived in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH for about 20 years and Rhode Island in 1870. She died on 15 August
1878, in Providence, Providence, RI at the age of 79.
