Band sampler by MARY CHAMPION England dated 1703 According to family tradition and a note attached to the back of the sampler, Mary was the mistress of a workhouse that trained young girls in the art of needlework and at one time was employed by royalty. This band sampler is over 300 years old and when made was not intended to be framed. It was rolled up and kept as an example of stitches to be referenced for future projects or teaching.
