Anonymous "Boxer" Band Sampler This early band sampler is filled with classic band motifs of the period. Of particular interest is the band of three dressed men each carrying flowers. In 17th century English needlework, these are referred to as boxers. They are a derivation of renaissance and earlier art figures usually depicting pudgy necked young cherub like boys, sometimes winged, carrying flowers or supporting a banner.
