Raised & Padded needlework picture
Greek mythology figures

This are large raised and padded, (stumpwork - a much later term), 17th century English embroidery features
a male figure between two female figures all standing in a central oval cartouche. One female figure is holding
a bow and arrow, the other is holding a flaming heart.
The figures depict Greek mythology characters representing Hestia, with the heart, who is the aunt of Apollo, center,
and his twin sister Atriums with the bow and arrow. Atriums and Hestia both vowed to never marry and remained maidens.
