Needlework memorial by Sarah Wyman
Woburn, Mass c.1802
Sarah Wyman stitched this beautiful silk embroidery in memory of her sister Abigail and wrote on the monument,
“Sacred/ to the memory/ of Miss Abigail Wyman/ who died Oct 28th 1802/ AET 18.” The original glass is inscribed,
“Wrought by Sarah Wyman.”
Abigail (born 1784) and Sarah (born 1785) were two of five daughters and one son born to Zebadiah and Eunice Wyman.
Eunice was the second wife of Zebadiah, a trader and retailer, who had two children by his first wife.
Sarah most likely attended a female academy in a neighboring town where she stitched this tribute to her older
sister.
