Phebe “Peggy” Kissam
Silk embroidered memorial
Hempstead, L. I., New York c.1810
Phebe (1794-1866) worked this stunningly beautiful silk embroidery memorializing her maternal grandparents.
Phebe’s grandfather Philip Platt (1732-1801) died when she was six and her grandmother Elizabeth (Mott) Platt (1733-1776)
died eighteen years before she was born. Peggy was probably about sixteen years old when she worked this c.1810
memorial.
Phebe was one of 8 children born to Daniel Kisson (1759-1848) and Phebe Platt (1769-1855) from Hempstead, Long
Island, NY.
Phebe married Benjamin Tredwell in 1818 as his 2nd wife and they had no children.
