Massachusetts silk embroidered memorial
Sacred to the Memory/ of/ Armory Holman/ who died/ 1794
This beautiful memorial to fifteen-month old, Armory Holman, was most likely worked by his sister Betty (1787-1825)
while at school. Their parents were General Silas Holman and Elizabeth Atherton Holman, they had nine children,
seven of whom lived to adulthold. The family lived in Bolton, Mass.
It was not uncommon for a family to lose a child at a young age and young ladies at school often dedicated their
memorial to a sibling.
