This anonymous silk embroidered memorial to George Washington was probably worked at the Misses’ Pattens School
in Hartford, Connecticut.
Memorials became the fashion of the day after the death of George Washington. Many were made in his honor and others
were dedicated to family members, or were left blank for a later inscription.
Silk, metallic thread, watercolor and ink on silk; 18 ¾” x 16 5/8” with frame.
