Windham, CT c.1805
Harriet Gray was born in 1790 and was the oldest of four children born to Samuel Gray Esq and Charlotte (Elderkin)
Gray of Windham, Connecticut. Harriet, in c.1805 wrought this memorial to her mother who died in 1797. Harriet's
father's portrait, attributed to Joseph Steward, is in the Hood Museum and Harriet's mother's portrait, also attributed
to Joseph Steward is in the (CHS), now the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History.
On the back of the original frame and backboard is the original Nathan Ruggles, (Hartford, CT) framing label. Written
in pencil on the original backing paper, which is now disintegrated: From Miss B…… G…… Charlotte Gray, 13 December
1797. Made by her daughter Harriet Gray….
