Silk embroidered memorials were very fashionable in the latter part of the 18th
and early 19th centuries. This example by Sophia Barney is lacking the inscription which was intended to be filled
in at a later date. Silk embroidered pictures were considered accomplishments, prized by parents, and prominently
displayed.
