Needlework Coat of Arms
Hartford, CT c.1807
This exquisite silk embroidered coat of arms was worked at the Misses Pattens' School in Hartford, Connecticut.
The Olcotts were a prominent family in Hartford and the original frame and overall design is vertically identical
to other coats of arms worked at Misses Pattens' School.
Displaying an elegant silk embroidered coat of arms in your home was a source of pride and joy especially if it
was created by your highly educated daughter. One can just imagine the thrill felt by the young lady who made this
anticipating the moment she would present it to her parents.
Note: Attached to the back of the stretcher as a backing is a newspaper from Albany, NY dated June 6, 1807.
Silk on silk; 22 ¼" x 19" framed.
