Harriet L. Poor
Goffstown, NH 1825
Harriet Little Poor worked the needlework sampler at age 10. She included an interesting verse suggesting one’s
glamour may hide one’s feelings. “Oft pining grief’s in/ rich brocades are drest/ And diamons glitter on an
anxious breast”
The sampler in inscribed: “Harriet L Poor was/ born July 20 1815/ and wrought this sampler 1825 Goffstown”
Her parents were Moses Poor and Sally. Harriet married 1st (age 21) May 5, 1836 in Newbury, MA to Thomas Huse and
2nd (age 26) in Bellerica, MA Aug. 12, 1841 to George Bower.
Note on back describes provenance of the last about 80? Years.
Silk on linen; 15 ½” x 15 ½” sight.
