Washington County, PA dated 1834

Mary Ann McCosh, daughter of Samuel and Elisabeth McCosh, worked this sampler in 1834 under the instruction of Mary Tidball. Four years later Mary Ann was teaching her own students using almost identical motifs and layout as this sampler. One of the known samplers taught at Mary Ann’s school was worked by her next door neighbor Abigail Higbee in 1838.

Silk on linen; 21 ¾” x 23 7/8” framed, 17 3/8” x 21 ½” sight.
