MARTHA ANN LITTLE Virginia - 1824 Martha Ann/ Little worked this in the year 1824 The format Martha used for her sampler is reminiscent of earlier pieces. Her banded arrangement is similar in style to samplers stitched in Boston, Newport, and Philadelphia in the 18th century. She included bands of verse and floral patterns and surrounded the whole with a carnation and sawtooth border. Her color palette is soft and extremely pleasing. Silk on linen; 17 ¾" x 16".
