Mary wrought this stunning sampler at aged 10 while attending the Ann Waters Woodman school in Newbury, MA. The
distinctive facing parrots are a well known characteristic of the school as is the trefoil border.
Mary (1786-1863) was one of nine children born to Abner Greenleaf (1761-1853) and his wife Sarah Hale (1766-1853)
in Newbury, MA. Mary married William Carr (1781-1855) in 1805. He was a tanner and they had five children.
Silk on linen; 15 x 20 ¼ inches sight.
