Early Band Sampler
Boston, MA c. 1730
A rare early American band sampler worked by Margaret Allen probably around age 9 or 10. It is inscribed: MARGARET
ALLEN BORN IVNE (JUNE) 20 1721. The alphabets use I for J and V is also used for the letter U.
Margaret was born in Reading , an area in the north part of Boston township.
The sampler consists of several intricately stitched bands and flowering vine motifs enhance the bottom section.
Silk on linen; 9 ½" x 13" framed.
