This beautiful sampler is inscribed: Abigail Buel,s Sampler Wrought in/ the 10th year of her age Grt Barrington
nov,br/ 6th A.D. 1807, and, Modesty is the citadel of/ Beauty and Virtue. The inscriptions in silver
thread, over the black, reads: Remember the Creator in the days of thy youth, and May Peace and Plenty be thy
Portion Here/ And Immortal Bliss Hereafter.
Below the alphabets, numerals, and inscriptions is a fully work panel with a basket of fruit and a cornucopia.
Surrounding the sampler is a colorfully embroidered black applied border.
Although Abigail lived in and died in Tyringham, at age 10 she attended school about 14 miles away in Great Barrington.
At age 48, she married George Phippen in Tyringham, MA.
