POLLY MARSTON, BARNSTABLE, MA c.1806
Embroidered and paint silk mourning picture worked in silk threads and paint on silk; 12 1/4 x 14 3/4 inches. Inscribed
on the glass; Wrought by Polly Marston
The frame bears the label of Cermenati & Monfrino.
NOTE:
Polly Marston (b. 1790) was the daughter of Winslow Marston (1764-1857) and Elizabeth Blish (1765-1837) of Barnstable.
She married Luther Hinkley. Mary (Polly) Marston (1790-1830) was one of five children and a descendant of Mayflower
passenger Edward Winslow (her great-great-great grandfather) and Henry III of England. She married in 1812, as
his first wife, Luther Hinkley (1789-1883) of Barnstable. They had no children. He had three children with his
second wife Minerva Baxter, who he married in 1831. He married third Thankful Leonard and they had two children.
