Judd family needlework memorial
South Hadley, Massachusetts circa 1810
Silk embroidered memorials were very popular in the early nineteenth century. This example was worked at Abby Wright’s
School in South Hadley, MA. The use of heavy metallic thread to embellish the monuments is a unique characteristic
of the Abby Wright School. Note: A portion of the paper inscription is missing. The glass is not original..
Silk and watercolor on silk; 19 x 16 inches framed.
